John 3:16
By Laura Ward
Many emotions - sadness, anger, disbelief - could be seen throughout Davy Jones Locker on Sunday, September 20, 2009. A benefit was held for the families of Anthony “Frumpy” Nalbone who was struck and killed while riding his motorcycle, and for his passenger, girlfriend Diana “Ladybug” Oglesby, who was seriously injured. A night spent with friends that turned tragic because “I DID NOT SEE THEM” was once again uttered. Those 5 little words – oh yes, just small words, but with so much impact. How many times have we heard them? How many times will we hear them again? Look at the faces of Anthony’s family. See what those 5 little words have done to them? And to all those other families who have suffered the same fate.
During the course of the day, an emotional speech was heard from ABATE of Florida’s Gulf Coast Chapter’s President, Gary “Satch” VerCrouse. As he said, “we pay fines up to $500 for littering but we pay only $82 for killing someone.” Did you know you can pay a fine of $206 and upwards for not stopping to pay a toll? Where is the justice? When will the legislature get people in there with some common sense and change the laws? We bikers are fighting with our every breath to see that stricter penalties be passed for those who kill another because “I DID NOT SEE THEM!”
I would personally like to thank Davy Jones for putting on this benefit. My friend, you are always stepping up to help those in need. You are a special person!
Join us, please, in our fight for justice. Let’s get the law passed for stricter penalties. Not just for those bikers being killed, but also for those who are killed in automobiles. It’s no wonder that some of us are scared anymore to get on our motorcycles to just enjoy a simple ride of pleasure – a ride that can turn deadly.
September 19th is recognized as POW/MIA Awareness Day.
This day in 2009, represented a first at the capitol building in Montgomery, Al. The POW/MIA flag was raised to be permanent. A variety of clubs and public and/or private organizations came together to show their personal support in the quest to bring home ALL our Veterans. Veterans capitive or MIA, of conflicts throughout the years and many countries throughout the world, past and present. Thanks to LAVA, Lower Alabama Veterans Assoc. Their support was cruical to the event. Recognition of POW/MIA Awareness Day will take place annually near September 19th, at the Capitol. Bigger and Better plans for next year!
Thanks,

Win A H-D Heirtage Softail Classic
Elsanor Volunteer Fire / Rescue Department (Station 53) located east of Robertsdale (Baldwin County, Ala.) on hwy. 90
We are in the process of building a new station and in trying to raise money for this project and others we are holding a raffle. Now the rest of the story, this raffle began January 2008 (yep 2008) and we were only going to have only 2000 tickets. But then the economy tanked and sales came to a halt.
We did reserve the right to extend the drawing until a min. # (1000) of tickets had been sold.
If 1000 tickets are sold there will be enough money to purchase a 2009 Harley Davidson Heirtage Softail Classic.
If you could post this on your web site we would greatly appreciate it.

BIKER CHICK SLUMBER PARTY
By Laura Ward
“Chicks Rule” was indeed an adage of truth as 18 “biker chicks” could be seen making their way to the annual Biker Chick Slumber Party on Saturday, October 10, 2009. Debbie (Babz) Helm and Shelley Johnson head up the committee each year to give us biker chicks a fun day. With loads of rain forecasted for the weekend, we woke up to blue skies and sunshine and it stayed that way the whole weekend. I do believe it was the works of the “Biker Gods” and our “Angel in Heaven, Hollywood” looking down upon us, taking care of us all. We all met up at Redline Motorcycles where our hosts were so kind in serving us hot coffee, water and donuts. The chicks each brought a gift to give in the “Gimme Dat Thang Gift Swap”. There were lots of nice gifts passed around. Some of those who got a really nice gift ended up with something else if another chick took it away from them. That’s why you are a lucky chick if you pick number one (1) for that game!
We then loaded up and headed down Route 29 to Highway 4 working our way South to Navarre beach to lunch at Juana’s. It was a nice, long and good ride with a few stops at the gas stations on the way. One unplanned stop was to help “Butterfly Girl” (Sandy) fix her throttle cable that broke. Her ride didn’t turn out as great as she had hoped and had to run by her house to pick up her truck but joined us at Juana’s for the ride into Pensacola Beach.
Those who had rooms for the night at the Comfort Inn checked in and went to their rooms. There were a few who headed on in different directions and some of us rode home to change into our PJ’s and returned to the Sandshaker Lounge later that evening. It was there that a “Loungewear Contest” was going to be held. With Boogie, Inc supplying the music, several of the chicks strutted their stuff. Three (3) finalists were chosen and one (1) walked away with the prize.
As the night progressed many stayed and danced to the band at the Sandshaker and some of us called it an evening and went on home. It was a great weekend and a good time and we all can’t wait until next years!
ABATE’S GULF COAST CHAPTER’S
ANNUAL BEAR RUN
By Laura Ward
We awoke to an overcast and dreary day boasted by a few showers on Sunday, October 4, 2009, but that didn’t deter about 80 bikers who registered for ABATE’s Gulf Coast Chapter’s Annual Bears Run. Well, I registered but did so in my truck. I know, what a wuss, right? Hey, I got some good pictures this way! Because of our past support, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office no longer needed bears so we brought new clothes for the children of the Santa Rosa Kid’s House. The Sheriff’s office is deluged monthly with calls to pick these kids up from their abusive home and they are then brought to the Kid’s House where they are fed and clothed and placed in foster care.
Door prizes were donated and won and Teresa Dimmick, with the Vietnam Vets, won the 50/50 but graciously donated her winnings back to the Kid’s House. We all thank her so much for that! Several groups besides ABATE were represented including the “Vietnam Vets”, “Blue Knights”, “Pensacola Motorcycle Society” (PMS), and the “Gold Wing Riders” of Milton.
When we arrived at the Sheriff’s office and placed our clothes in the “car”, Sheriff Wendall Hall had been called away with an emergency illness in the family. We are hoping all is well Wendall! Sgt. Scott Haines with the department was there and spoke on Wendall’s behalf and presented our Gulf Coast Chapter’s President, Gary (Satch) VerCrouse with a plaque for appreciation.
Even with the showers we still had a great time listening to Boogie, Inc and talking with old (and new) friends. I would also like to thank my contacts in the media who helped get the word out about our run. Hope to see all of you again next year so until then …
